On the occasion of 74th Independence Day celebration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) which will be released in 6 union territories in pilot mode. "A Health ID card will be issued for every Indian in this scheme"" he said.

"This will be a revolutionary step in Healthcare System and role of technology will the there to reduce the difficulties in the treatment, test, disease diagnosis, and doctors visit," he said

Health ID, Personal Health Record, Digi-Doctor, Health Facility Registry, Tele-Medicine and e-Pharmacy are the components of the NDHM. "Health ID will be like a health account," he said.

It is the results of long term planning under National Health Policy 2017 to create a digital ecosystem. Emphasis on an "ecosystem NOT the system" mentioned in the National Health Digital Blueprint (NHDB) (A complete report can be downloaded here) indicate the clear goals and long term planning of the government.

NDHM will be operated by a government owned entity and not the private. National Health Authority is the designated body in this direction with the power of autonomous operations and below picture indicate the action plan described by NHDB.
