The nursing bill could not be passed in Parliament this time too

In the monsoon session, the government’s effort was to pass the Nursing and Dental bills, but due to the opposition’s protest, the bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha.

Many bills were to be passed in this session, one of them being the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill.

In 2020, the draft Nursing Bill was prepared and placed for public comments and could not be passed in the upcoming Parliament session.  Now even after two years, it could not be passed in the recently held monsoon session.

Prioritizing the need for change in the healthcare sector, the present government started with the National Medical Commission on 25 September 2020 and several bills were passed in this area.  The draft of the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill 2020 was also prepared at the same time.

According to the bill, the Indian Nursing Council will be repealed and the commission will handle all the work.  After the bill is passed, the search committee will find and appoint the Chairman and other officers of the commission. This whole process will take time similar to the Medical Commission, but as soon as the Chairman is appointed, the rules and regulations will start being made.

Now the remaining bill will be passed in the coming session (winter session) and that too when the Parliament can run properly.
