NEET Exam To Be Conducted Twice a Year

The students of the medical field who were eagerly waiting for the dates of the exam and the status for the conduction of the NEET exam can take a sigh of relief. The Health Ministry has approved the proposal. The students can now give exams two times a year starting from 2021. The acceptance was received after a long discussion on the conduct of exams between the government and the board.

Earlier the examination body was of the opinion of conducting the exams online but most of the students would not appear for the same. Later, it was decided to conduct the examination twice a year. This will be applicable for the session 2021-22.

The preparation of the schedule for the conduct of exams in the various medical field is still in progress. It has not been finalized yet but it is expected to be released soon. By conducting exams two times a year, it has joined the line of JEE Mains in which the attempts were increased from 2 to 4 this year.

The rankings will be finalized after taking into account the best of marks obtained in both attempts. The same strategy was adopted in JEE Mains last year. The conduct of exam twice will reduce the burden on students. It will help them mentally. It also reduces the risk of not able to give an exam due to emergency matters.

Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, was already in discussion with the health ministry about the conduct of the exam. He gave hints to students last week when he appeared in an interview to a tv channel

When the pandemic hit the nation, the exam was conducted a little late during the last year. Usually, it takes place in the first week of May but it was organized in September due to nationwide lockdowns. Although, NTA has not announced the dates for the current year exam.

A press conference was organized on 19 January. During the conference, the education ministry clarified that there is no change in the syllabus. However, internal choices will be provided in the question paper.

The exam is expected to fill the following seats:-

  • MBBS – 91367
  • AYUSH – 52720
  • BDS – 26949

The students from the medical field actively communicated to authorities when the decision for JEE Mains being conducted four times was passed. Students are also expecting exam dates to be announced soon so that they can prepare accordingly.
