This occurrence bedevilled Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital on Thursday night around 9 pm. The nurse was held hostage and released after three hours once the police arrived at the scene.

A premature infant dies because of a shortage of ventilator at a government hospital in Malviya Nagar of Delhi. After the demise of the newborn, the relatives caused a magnanimous ruckus by taking a nurse under hostage for a minimum of 3 hours. They also arranged the hospital management for their negligence.

The relatives of the child were not prepared to emancipate the nurse even though the management constantly tried to free the nurse. In the meantime the police were informed of the happening. When the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the hospital contacted the Station House Officer (SHO) of Malviya Nagar, he disengaged the line and instructed him to receive help by dialing 100.

A grievance has been filed at Safdarjung Enclave police station regarding this issue. Police investigation has commenced although it has not been registered.

As per what the CMO of the hospital, MS Madhav said, the infant weighed around 1 kg and was in acute need of a ventilator which the hospital couldn’t provide and during this conversation the child was no more. As soon as this situation came up Dr. Ashish accompanied by Nurse Anuradha rushed towards the baby but Dr. Ashish was dreadfully beaten up and Nurse Anuradha was taken as a hostage by the family members creating a scene.

Informing further about the situation, MS Madhav also claimed that the hospital asked for the relatives' consent to shift the newborn to the general ward and asking them to take any responsibility if something happens to the child. As the discussion was going on the infant demised.
