“Tika Utsav” begins today: COVID vaccination drive

Today, on the Birth anniversary of a social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, the four day event Tika Utsav has begun in India. The vaccine festival aims to vaccinate the maximum number of eligible (age above 45 years) people in the country.

PM Modi in a virtual meeting with state chief ministers appealed to observe April 11-14 as “Tika (vaccination) Utsav”. In concern of increasing covid case and death rates, PM Modi held a meeting with Chief Ministers on April 8, 2021, with the key topic of talk remaining issues related to Vaccination and current COVID-19 situation in the country.

STRESS TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL HYGIENE:

These continuous four days of COVID-19 vaccination drive is going to be a herculean task. It is the second biggest fight against corona virus infection, said PM Modi while appealing for Vaccination drive on Twitter today. He also stressed on maintaining social hygiene with personal hygiene which includes wearing masks, social distancing, and handwashing.

He tried to spread awareness among public on how to win our second fight by keeping four things in mind:

  • Each One-Vaccinate One, which means to help people get vaccinated who are comparatively less educated, elderly and who cannot visit the centers by themselves to get Tika.
  • Each One-Treat One, which means to help people get treatment who have less information and resources.
  • Each One-Save One, which me to save one and another by wearing masks.

And at last but not the least, people will have to respond to make “Micro Containment Zones”, if anybody tests positive for covid either in one’s family or in society.

ZERO VACCINE WASTAGE:

PM Modi also urged people and administration to focus on getting the person vaccinated who is providing vaccination to everyone. He says to take steps towards ‘No Vaccine Waste’ by not wasting any single vaccine dose which will ultimately increase the country’s vaccination capacity.

He came up with zero vaccine waste in order to overcome the vaccination shortage. In his meeting with CMs, he discussed vaccination distribution in the whole country and he added that we have to prioritize what we have.

EMPHASIS ON 70% COVID TESTING:

This fight with coronavirus infection can only be won by not only vaccination but by getting more and more people tested. During the PM’s meeting with state CMs, he emphasized on increasing testing even if there is an increase in positive cases. He added that our target is to do 70% RT-PCR tests.

He also mentioned the Five-Fold Strategy to limit covid stated as:

  • Testing
  • Tracking,
  • Treatment,
  • COVID Appropriate Behavior, and
  • Vaccination.

This strategy reflects the five major points we need to win our fight against Coronavirus Infection.
