The shortage of nurses around the world is creating an opportunity for people who want to pursue Nursing. A big professional thought change required in India as the medical community is dominated by Doctors, and nurses are seen as just implementers of doctor’s orders though the nursing profession is autonomous. To encourage the entry of more fresh nurses, the idea of sovereign nursing should be in place and create a mindset of nurse and doctor equivalency. Indian Nursing Council (INC) is busy in bridging the gap and changing the mindset by adopting Nurse Practioner roles.
As part of Sustainable Development Goal 3 analysis, South East Asia and Africa require more nurses. 50% of the healthcare workforce consists of nurses only.
Nurses play a critical role in health promotion, disease prevention and delivering primary and community care. They provide care in emergency care as well. Implementation of traditional medicine workforce in primary healthcare in India is a long term plan to combat the shortage issues.
More nurses are migrating to other countries from India due to poor pay in private sector and other lack of basic amenities.
