New Delhi, October 2024 – The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has officially extended the last date for admissions to various nursing programs for the academic year 2024–2025. According to Notification No. 14 of 2024, issued on October 28, 2024, the revised deadline for admissions to programs such as ANM, GNM, B.Sc. (N), PBB.Sc. (N), M.Sc. (N), Post Basic Diploma, and NPCC has been moved to November 30, 2024.
This decision comes in response to requests from several states, seeking an extension to accommodate more students into nursing programs. The INC’s notification specifies that the total number of admissions until October 31, 2024, will be considered the “regular batch,” while admissions from November 1, 2024, onward will be classified as the “irregular batch.” Importantly, the total number of admissions across both batches should not exceed the sanctioned annual intake for each institution.
Guidelines for B.Sc. (Nursing) Students
For the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. (N)) programs, the INC has directed universities and colleges to implement a semester-wise system. Students admitted by October 31, 2024, will form the regular batch, while those joining after this date will be part of the irregular batch. Specific guidelines emphasize:
- Attendance Requirements: Students must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance in both theory and practical sessions for each course to qualify for examinations. Additionally, 100% attendance is mandated in practical areas before the degree is awarded.
- Separate Examinations: Exams for regular and irregular batches will be conducted separately, with universities instructed to ensure that institutional schedules comply with semester requirements.
Attendance Standards for GNM and ANM Programs
The notification also outlines attendance criteria for other nursing programs, including General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM):
- GNM Students: Must have at least 80% attendance in theory and practical sessions and must complete clinical or field training to be eligible for certification.
- ANM Students: Are required to complete at least 80% of clinical requirements prior to final exams and demonstrate competencies as outlined in the syllabus.
The INC reiterated that these regulations align with its mission to uphold educational standards and ensure that nursing graduates are adequately prepared for professional demands.
No Further Extensions
The INC clarified that no further extensions for admissions will be granted, urging institutions and prospective students to comply with the new deadlines. This extension and the accompanying attendance requirements reflect INC’s commitment to maintaining high standards in nursing education across India.
The announcement, signed by Lt. Col. Dr. Sarvjeet Kaur, Secretary of the INC, concludes with a call to all nursing institutions to adhere strictly to these guidelines. The council emphasized that this extension aims to address student needs without compromising the quality and rigor of nursing education in the country.
