Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution – Health Care Workers To Get the First Dose

The meeting was organized by PM Narendra Modi regarding the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine all over the country. This vital meeting was scheduled on Tuesday. Chief ministers of all the states also participate to in the meeting. Dr. HarshVardhan in an interview said that the health care workers are identified as the first ones to receive the corona vaccine dose as and when the first vaccine is available.

Dr. HarshVardhan, Union Health, and Family Welfare Minister told that the administration is at the last stage of deciding the distribution system. He also told that around 92% of government hospitals and 56% of private-sector hospitals have provided the data for the same. The ministry has received significant reactions from the states. The states were asked to name the health care workers and get them registered on the online platform before 31 October. The people who are at risk of getting the virus and facing occupational hazards will be the first ones to get the vaccine.

According to sources, it has been reviewed that the health care workers approximate around 1 crore.

Dr. V K Paul, who is the chief member of NITI Aayog along with Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary is expected to give a full detailed analysis on the creation of a database of health care workers and frontline workers. This process is at the final stage before Modi’s meeting with the vaccine administration on Tuesday.

According to plans, the center is trying to reach 20-25 crores people by July 2021 for doses. The largest immunization drive will come when the center is expecting to use and receive 400-500 million doses.

The students of the medical field, the nursing students under training, and faculty members will be playing a key role in the implementation of the immunization program.

Currently, one antibody manufacturer is

at the initial stage and five antibodies are in later stages of improvement in India. They are as follows:

  • Zydus Cadila has finished Phase 2 preliminaries
  • Natural E is at 1-2 stage
  • Serum Institute has completed 3 phase who is trying Oxford’s vaccine
  • Phase 2-3 preliminaries had been started by Dr. Reddy who is working on Sputnik-V, Russia’s vaccine, and
  • Phase 3 preliminaries has been started by Bharat Biotech

Dr. HarshVardhan has explained the distribution system during an interview. According to him, firstly the immunization drive will include 5 phases, which are:

i) Phase 1 – Health Care Workers (All the nursing and medical staff in Government as well as private hospitals including the persons assisting in healthcare)

ii) Phase 2 – Frontline Workers like police, para-military forces, and sanitization staff

iii) Phase 3 – More than 65-year-old people

iv) Phase 4 – Between 50 – 65-year-old people

v) Phase 5  – Lastly, people suffering from diseases like diabetes and heart diseases
