Recently, the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Department has released the notification inviting online applications for numerous posts of Staff Nurse, Medical Officer (Specialist), General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO). Altogether, 8634 vacancies are available where 6114 are for the posts of Staff Nurse, 1313 are for posts of Medical officer (Specialist), and the remaining 1207 posts for General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO).

Online applications are invited from the candidates who fulfil the required necessary eligibility criteria:

  1. Educational Qualifications:

Staff Nurse: Candidates should have done GNM/ B.Sc (Nursing)/ Post B.Sc (Nursing) course from any recognized university or institute sanctioned by both Indian Nursing Council and respective state council, should have a registration certificate for the same from West Bengal Nursing Council. Further, candidates should possess the knowledge of Bengali/Nepali language (spoken and written).

Medical Officer (Specialist): Candidate must possess MBBS degree which is included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Nursing Council Act of 1956 with an approved and requisite of Post-Graduation in the respective Speciality & also to be registered as Medical Practitioner under Medical Council Registration in the Medical Council of India. If the Candidate has been recruited then he/she must register his/her name in the West Bengal Medical Council within a span of 6 months of joining the West Bengal Health Service. Also, one year of practical training as a House Staff in any Government hospital or recognized institution.  

General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO): Candidate must possess MBBS degree which is included in the first schedule or second schedule or Part II of the third schedule of the Indian Medical Nursing Council Act of 1956 with an approved and requisite of Post-Graduation in the respective Speciality & also to be registered as Medical Practitioner under Medical Council Registration in the Medical Council of India. If the Candidate has been recruited then he/she must register his/her name in the West Bengal Medical Council within a span of 6 months of joining the West Bengal Health Service. Also, one year of practical training as a House Staff in any Government hospital or recognized institution.

  • Age Limit:

Staff Nurse: Minimum- 18 years – Maximum- 39 years

Medical Officer (Specialist): Maximum 40 years

General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO): Maximum 36 years for ordinary Medical Practitioners and 40 years for those possessing Post-Graduation. Age relaxation is applicable as per the norms. 

  • Pay-scale criteria:

Staff Nurse: Rs. 29,800/- Other allowances are applicable as per existing government rules. 

Medical Officer (Specialist): As per WBS(ROPA) Rules 2019, Pay Band (PB-4A of Rs. 15,600- 42,000/- plus Grade pay of Rs. 5,400/-)  

General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO): As per WBS(ROPA) Rules 2019, Pay Band (PB-4A of Rs. 15,600- 42,000/- plus Grade pay of Rs. 5,400/-)
