As we are advancing in the technological world, online scams are becoming a part of it. This time a scam has come to the notice about the fake website related to covid 19 vaccination. Online scam is not a new issue, but when it engages health of the society it is important to address them as soon as possible.
The website ‘mohfw.xyz’ was impersonating as an official website of the health ministry. The graphic designs made them look similar which is why people could not differentiate between the two and became the victim of online fraud. The faulty website was booked by the central government as soon as it came to the notice. The bogus website was created on the idea of providing covid 19 vaccines at nominal amounts and innocent people fell for it.
The website also arranges appointments for the people seeking vaccines. It charged nearly 4 thousand to 6 thousand for the vaccine. The identical name and design fooled the people who could not check the validity of the website.
The matter was first reported by the press information bureau who took initiative and informed the public through the Twitter platform. Later ministry of health retweeted the same with informing about the filed case against the fraudsters and taking urgent actions afraid the creators of the fake website.
The ministry also asked people to be careful and do not fall for these traps. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also spoke in the matter and appreciated the press informs bureau for discovering the fake website.
Earlier also before the vaccination drive, the health ministry warned people about providing their personal information on mobile applications and websites. It was reported that apps similar to CoWIN were created to fraud people and steal their personal information. People need to be alert and should not give their private information to any platform without considering its validity.
